Type material. Holotype (BMHN).

Type locality. Hong Kong, Mirs Bay, intertidal .

Distribution. Only known from the holotype locality.

Remarks. Bullock & Harper (1994) considered Onithochiton sp. of Van Belle (1982) as Onithochiton hirasei which is “quite variable in shell morphology and colour”. Kaas et al. (2006) pointed out that O. margueritae differs from O. hirasei regarding the form of valves and the color of the girdle. Moreover, the dorsal girdle of O. margueritae has marginal spicules but without needle-like spicules.
