TYPE SPECIES: Eupleres goudotii Doyère, 1835, by monotypy (Melville and Smith, 1987).

COMMENTS: Gregory and Hellman (1939) followed Chenu (1852), and suggested placing Eupleres in a separate family; however, Albignac (1973, 1974), Petter (1974), Coetzee (1977b), and Wozencraft (1989a) included it in Viverridae .
