Nycterimyia Lichtwardt, 1909: 648 . Type species: Trichopsidea dohrni Wandolleck, 1897, by monotypy.

capensis Bezzi, 1924: 168 . KwaZulu­Natal; Limpopo.

Discussion: This is a very rarely collected species, with only two known South African specimens. All Afrotropical material of the genus has recently been revised (Barraclough 2005a 2006).

Relationships: As suggested above, Nycterimyia and Atriadops clearly appear to be related. The wing venation shows fairly complex fusion of the apical veins. A further apomorphy is the fusion of the first and second antennal segments (Barraclough 2005a).
