– 1, 4, 5, 14, 16, 17, 20 (7: 295–840 m), fr.: between boulders in rock fields at the edge of snowfields, among mosses on soil in grass tundras and boggy willow in seepages, on sides of bogs and on banks of streams [121117]. Occurs in pure mats but more often mixed with other bryophytes, more often with Barbilophozia hatcheri, B. lycopodioides, Lophozia wenzelii, Scapania irrigua, Pohlia drummondii, Aulacomnium palustre, Paludella squarrosa, Rhizomnium pseudopunctatum, Sanionia uncinata, Sciuro-hypnum latifolium.
