Gelanor juruti new species

Etymology. The species epithet is a noun in apposition, after Jurutí, the region in which the type specimens were collected.

Diagnosis. Gelanor juruti can be easily recognized by the two small round white spots on the top anterior margin of the characteristic white spots of most Gelanor (shared with G. altithorax, G. fortuna and G. zonatus) combined with red margins that partially enclose the white spot (Figs 27 D, 29E).

Description. Male holotype. Habitus as in Figs. 27 A–F. Total length 4.12. Cephalothorax 2.33 long, 1.72 wide, 0.83 high; abdomen 1.79 long, 1.42 wide, 1.26 high. Carapace light orange with five red stripes: one covering ocular area, one running transversally on cephalic region, a small one on the apex and two lateral ones that go from carapace edge towards apex (Fig. 27 A). Sternum pale yellow, 1.15 long, 0.89 wide. Labium 0.26 long, 0.23 wide. Clypeus 0.10 high; AME inter-distance 0.18, PME 0.08. PME–AME distance 0.19; AME–ALE 0.21, PME–PLE 0.27. Chelicerae colored as carapace (Fig. 27 H); ChL 0.75 ChW1 0.39; ChW2 0.39. Ocular area with setae as in Fig. 27 I. Abdomen with two characteristic white spots and two smaller round white spots anterior to large ones; all four spots with a red margin; in small spots, margin not completely encircling spots (Fig.27 D). Fovea as in Figs. 27 J–K. For palp and leg measurements, see Table 5. Palp 2.41 times longer than total body length (Fig. 28). Cymbium almost as wide as is long (0.77 long, 0.73 wide). Cymbial flap with a smooth edge and concave, "C" shaped (Figs. 28 A, C). Paracymbium contiguous with cymbium (Figs. 28 C, E, I).

Color patterns on cephalothorax and abdomen similar to those on males. Sternum 0.83 long, 0.78 wide. Labium 0.32 long, 0.21 wide. Clypeus 0.11 high. AME inter-distance 0.18; PME inter-distance 0.10; PME–AME distance 0.15; AME–ALE distance 0.11; PME–PLE distance 0.23. ChL 0.87; ChW1 0.39; ChW2 0.43. For palp and leg measurements see Table 6. Epigynum lobes anteriorly triangular (Fig. 30 A); in ventral and posterior views, anterior margin showing a medial depression (Figs. 30 B–C). Spermathecae oval, with a flat anterior edge and externally fused (Figs. 30 F–G). Spinnerets as in Figs. 30 L–O.

Male cephalothorax ranges in length from 2.14 to 2.33; cephalothorax width ranges from 1.47 to 1.72; cephalothorax height ranges from 1.11 to 2.91; abdomen width ranges from 3.49 to 4.37; abdomen height ranges from 2.26 to 2.86; total body length ranges from 3.97 to 4.72 (n=4). Female cephalothorax ranges in length from 1.98 to 2.27; cephalothorax width ranges from 1.52 to 1.64; cephalothorax height ranges from 1.11 to 2.91; abdomen width ranges from 3.49 to 4.37; abdomen height ranges from 2.26 to 2.86; total body length ranges from 3.97 to 4.72 (n=3).

Distribution. Recorded for the Brazilian Amazon region, Venezuela, and Guyana (Fig. 31).
