Bathyvermilia eliasoni (Zibrowius, 1970)

(Fig. 5 I)

Vermiliopsis langerhansi non Fauvel, 1909 sensu Southward 1963: 584 fide Zibrowius 1973: 431.

Vermiliopsis (?) eliasoni Zibrowius, 1970: 121 –122; Tyler & Zibrowius 1992: 220 (SW Ireland); Barrier et al. 1989: 790 –791, fig. 2 (a table summarizing depth distribution from 200-2000 m, Sicily).

Bathyvermilia eliasoni Kupriyanova & Nishi 2010: 58 –60, figs. 3, 4 (Patton-Murray Seamounts, Gulf of Alaska).

Material examined. SIO: R/V “ Vityaz ” Stn. 3150, 44 °28.3’N, 170°15.3’E, 1201 m, trawl, 24 Sept 1954, sponge chunks (2 tubes); Stn. 3353, 53 °53.5’N, 169°15.5’E, 1548–1593 m, trawl, 5 May 1955 (1 tube). Distribution. Central Atlantic, Mediterranean, North Pacific Ocean, 200–2000 m.

Remarks. The material of this species is represented in the SIO collection by three tubes (no animals present) with three longitudinal ridges raised into curved spines. Such very distinctive tubes were recently reported by Kupriyanova & Nishi (2010) for Bathyvermilia eliasoni from the Patton-Murray Seamounts, Gulf of Alaska, North-Eastern Pacific Ocean. Kupriyanova & Nishi (2010) also briefly discussed the wide geographic distribution of this species.
