Additions to original description. Dorsal cephalic chaetotaxy with 4 median (M), 5 sutural (S) and 6 in Gr. II (Fig. 13). Th.II with 4(3) (m1, m2, m 2i, m 2i 2) medio-medial, 5 (m4, m 4i, m4p, m4pi, m4pi2) medio-lateral, and 24–27 posterior mac; mac m 2i 2 often absent (Fig. 14). Th.III with about 30–34 mac and 5 (m5, m 5i, a6, a 6i, a6e) mac in Gr. III (Fig. 15). Abd.IV with 7 central and 11–12 lateral mac (Fig. 16).

Ecology. Most from caves.

Distribution. Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Virginia, Missouri.

Remarks. This species is characterized by 2+2 eyes, which are absent in some eastern populations (Christiansen & Bellinger 1980). It is similar to 2+2 eyed species S. curviseta Brook, 1882 and S. aera Christiansen & Bellinger, 1980, but differs from the arrangement of eyes and chaetotaxy of Abd.II–III (see Christiansen & Bellinger 1980).
