Additions to original description. Th.II with 4 (m1, m2, m 2i, m 2i 2) medio-medial, 5 (m4, m 4i, m4p, m4pi, m4pi2) medio-lateral, and 27–31 posterior mac; mac p4ip often absent (Fig. 33). Th.III with about 37 mac and 5 (m5, m 5i, a6, a 6i, a6e) mac in Gr. III (Fig. 34).

Ecology. Most from caves.

Distribution. Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania (Christiansen & Bellinger 1998).

Remarks. It is similar to S. barri in “smooth” differentiated chaetae on tibiotarsi, dorsal chaetotaxy, and mucro, but differs from the latter in eye number and ungual inner teeth, unpaired teeth present in S. barri and absent in S. hoffmani .
