Type locality. Sweden (“Habitat in Sveciae nemoribus”).

Material examined. None.

Identity. Epinotia maculana (Fabricius) ( Olethreutinae, Eucosmini) (Hannemann 1961).

Remarks. The relationship of this species to Tortrix ophtalmicana Hübner, 1799 was established by Werneburg (1848). However, the priority of the Fabrician name remained undetected even in reputed publications (Obraztsov 1946). Epinotia maculana was introduced apparently by Hannemann (1961) and is used extensively in contemporary literature (e.g., Brown 2005).
