Synonyms: Herpetocypris meridana Furtos 1936b; Dolerocypris sagitta Klie 1939; Herpetocypris muhitis (?) Tressler 1950; Herpetocypris bonettoi Ferguson 1967 .
Type locality: Halal Aguada, near Mérida, Yucatan, Mexico (20º58’ N, 89º37’ W). Holotype (1♀)—USNM, 67974.
In Venezuela: at the following localities according to Broodbakker (1984a, b): NUEVA ESPARTA State —WH 1936/13, excavated and stagnant well, Estanque Lato, west of Boca de Rio, Macanao Peninsula, Margarita Island (GN 10º58’03” N, 64º10’50” W). LOS TESTIGOS Archipelago—WH 1936/30 (emend., see remarks), pond, Poza del Morro de la Iguana, Iguana Island (GN 11º21’32” N, 63º08’03” W) .
Remarks: geographical distribution includes Puerto Rico, Guadeloupe (La Désirade, Îles des Saintes, Maria Galante), Monserrat, Venezuela (Broodbakker 1984a, b), Brazil, Ecuador (Martens & Behen 1994), Mexico (Yucatan Peninsula), Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador (Cohuo et al. 2016), Argentina (Sabater et al. 2023). An amendment is made to the locality given for Venezuela in Hummelinck (1940); from which it is assumed that the WH 1936/30 sample was collected on Iguana Island, Los Testigos Archipelago (Venezuela). Broodbakker (1984b) indicates that this species (≡ Tanycypris meridana) is an accompanying fauna of Heterocypris margaritae, Keysercypria affinis, Potamocypris hummelincki, and Rudjakoviella prolongata .
