Astragalus alopecuroides Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 755. 1753.
"Habitat in Sibiria, Hispania." RCN: 5575.
Lectotype (Podlech in Turland & Jarvis in Taxon 46: 463. 1997): Löfling 544a, Herb. Linn. No. 926.1 (LINN) .
Current name: Astragalus alopecuroides L. subsp. alopecuroides ( Fabaceae: Faboideae).
Note: Pampanini (in Nuovo Giorn. Bot. Ital., n.s., 14: 327-481. 1907) provided an extensive discussion and excluded the Spanish element from his concept of the species. He considered the various original elements (reproducing two Clifford sheets as his f. IX and X) but did not formally designate a type. Although Becht (in Phanerog. Monogr. 10: 75. 1978) stated: "Typus: In Hispania (BM)", it is unclear what material may have been intended (there are Gronovius and Clifford sheets) so this cannot be accepted as a formal typification. Podlech subsequently designated material from Spain as the lectotype.
