Current name: Aster lateriflorus (L.) Britton var. hirsuticaulis (Lindl.) Porter ( Asteraceae).

Note: See a detailed discussion by Gray (in Proc. Amer. Acad. Arts 17: 166-167. 1882). Jones & Hiepko (in Willdenowia 11: 351. 1981) referred to "the Linnaean type" without saying what they believed it to be, and Hoffmann (in Feddes Repert. 107: 175. 1996) also discussed the application of the name.
