Arundo bambos Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 81. 1753.

"Habitat in India utraque." RCN: 682.

Lectotype (Judziewicz in Görts-van Rijn, Fl. Guianas, ser. A, 8: 50. 1990): [icon] “Ily” in Rheede, Hort. Malab. 1: 25, t. 16. 1678.

Current name: Bambusa bambos (L.) Voss ( Poaceae).

Note: McClure (in Blumea, Suppl. 3: 109. 1946) discussed the name and the cited Rheede figure but did not make an unequivocal type statement. Although Holttum (in Taxon 5: 28, 67. 1956) recommended the rejection of the name as a nomen confusum, this has never been formally proposed. Judziewicz (in Görts-van Rijn, Fl. Guianas, ser. A, 8: 50. 1990) clearly indicated Rheede’s t. 16 as the type, and this choice has priority over that of Xia & Stapleton (in Kew Bull. 52: 697, f. 1. 1997), who chose a Hermann specimen in Leiden (L) as the lectotype.
