Andropogon barbatus Linnaeus, Mantissa Plantarum Altera: 302. 1771, nom. illeg.

"Habitat in India orientali." RCN: 7558.

Lectotype (Judziewicz in Görts-van Rijn, Fl. Guianas, ser A, 8: 136. 1990): Herb. Linn. No. 1211.21 (LINN) .

Current name: Chloris barbata Sw. ( Poaceae).

Note: A later homonym of A. barbatus L. (1759) and hence illegitimate. Although Fosberg (in Taxon 25: 325. 1976) argued that A. barbatus L. (1771) is merely a modification of A. barbatus L. (1759), it seems clear that this is not the case. In Syst. Nat., ed. 13: 759. 1774, both this and the species described in 1759 (though named as A. polydactylos L. (1763), nom. illeg.) were recognised.
