Lectotype (Schelpe in Contr. Bolus Herb. 1: 45. 1969): Herb. Clifford: 475, Acrostichum 1 (BM-000647610) .

Generitype of Acrostichum Linnaeus (vide Mirbel, Dict. Sci. Nat. 1: 244. 1816; Smith, Hist. File.: 146. 1875).

Current name: Acrostichum aureum L. ( Pteridaceae).

Note: Although Tardieu-Blot (in Aubréville, Fl. Gabon 8: 100. 1964) stated "Type: herb. Linné, 1767" it is unclear whether this refers to LINN (where 1245 would be the generic number). Schelpe’s choice of Clifford material as type therefore appears to be the earliest explicit choice although 1245.5 (LINN) was treated as the lectotype by Proctor (in Howard, Fl. Lesser Antilles 2: 152. 1977), as was a Plumier plate (by Proctor, Ferns Jamaica: 281. 1985).
