Anagallis capensis Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 149. 1753.

"Habitat ad Caput b. spei." RCN: 104.

Type not designated.

Original material: none traced.

Current name: Diascia capensis (L.) Britten ( Scrophulariaceae).

Note: Britten (in J. Bot. 47: 44. 1909) says that "Linnaeus based [this] on Anagallis purpurea, bursae pastoris foliis minoribus Pet. Mus. 245 (recte 345), of which Petiver’s original specimen, received from Oldenland, is in Herb. Sloane, vol. 156, f. 157". He evidently interpreted the name via this specimen, though he did not refer to it as the type.
