Type Locality: "Cocopunco, a site on the eastern slope of the Cordillera Real on the road to Mapiri, La Paz, Bolivia; altitude, about 3200 meters".
Vernacular Names: Dwarf Brocket.
Distribution: Bolivian Andes, S Peru.
Conservation: IUCN – Data Deficient.
Discussion: Prior to 1959 this species was confused with Pudu mephistophiles; see Hershkovitz (1959 c). Regarded as a subspecies of M. bricenii by Anderson (1997).
