Type Locality: China, "Changling region (31°10'42''N, 115°53'48''E, altitude 500 m), Jinzhai county, Anhui province ".

Vernacular Names: Anhui Musk Deer.

Distribution: Known only from Anhui Prov., China.

Conservation: CITES – Appendix II.

Discussion: Originally described as a subspecies of M. moschiferus; included in M. berezovskii by Groves and Feng (1986); a valid species according to Su et al. (2001), inferred from mtDNA sequences to be the sister taxon of a group including M. chrysogaster, M. fuscus, M. leucogaster, and M. berezovskii .
