Biology and notes: The yellow larvae live freely in the capitula of Achillea millefolium and A. ptarmica ( Asteraceae). Infected capitula are not visibly damaged. Univoltine. The species is previously known only from A. millefolii, but we have also found it on A. ptarmica, which thus represents a new host plant. Barcoding of specimens from both plants confirms that the midges belong to the same species.

Distribution: Widespread in Europe including Norway and Denmark.
