Type Locality: Solomon Isls, Guadalcanal Isl, Aola.

Vernacular Names: Guadalcanal Uromys.

Distribution: Endemic to Guadalcanal Isl.

Conservation: IUCN – Extinct. Probably extinct (see Flannery, 1995 b).

Discussion: Subgenus Cyromys . Although originally described as a species of Uromys, it was transferred to Melomys (Ellerman, 1941; Rümmler, 1938), placed once more in Uromys (Tate, 1951), again put in Melomys (Laurie and Hill, 1954), and currently returned to Uromys (Flannery and Wickler, 1990; Groves and Flannery, 1994). Still known only by the holotype. Morphologically closely related to U. rex and U. imperator . Reviewed by Flannery (1995 b).
