Type Locality: Solomon Isls, Bougainville Isl, about 10 mi (16 km) inland from Buin.

Vernacular Names: Poncelet's Solomys.

Distribution: Solomon Isls; endemic to islands of Buka, Bougainville, and Choiseul (Flannery, 1995 b; Flannery and Wickler, 1990); sample from Buka Isl represented only by fossils.

Conservation: IUCN – Endangered.

Discussion: An arboreal species that builds stick nests high in large tall trees and known by a few extant specimens and archaeological fragments (Flannery et al., 1988; Flannery and Wickler, 1990). Reviewed by Flannery (1995 b).
