Type Locality: Philippines, N Luzon Isl, Mountain Province, Mt Data, 8000 ft (2440 m).

Vernacular Names: Montane Chrotomys.

Distribution: Greater Luzon Faunal Region in the Philippines. Endemic to N Luzon in the Central Cordillera of Benguet, Mountain, and Kalinga provinces, 1000-1500 m (Heaney et al., 1999; Rickart and Heaney, 2002).

Conservation: IUCN – Vulnerable.

Discussion: One specimen is recorded from Irisan, Benguet Province (Hollister, 1913 b); a small series comes from Kalinga Province (L. Heaney, in litt., 2002), and all other examples are from the type locality (Largen, 1985; Sanborn, 1952 a; Thomas, 1895). Standard karyotype (2n = 38, FN = 52) differs from Rhynchomys isarogensis, Chrotomys gonzalesi, and C. silaceus (2n = 44, recorded as Celaenomys) by three Robertsonian translocations (Rickart and Heaney, 2002).
