Diagnosis. Gena broad, at least 0.5 times as wide as first flagellomere; ocellar setae reclinate, convergent to cruciate (rarely parallel); first flagellomere rounded or somewhat angulate apicodorsally; wing with C usually extending to tip of M 1+2, sometimes ending halfway between R 4+5 and M 1+2; R 2+3 long, second costal sector more than 2.5 times length of third (rarely 2.0–2.5 times length of third); male genitalia usually large, epandrium prominent, semicircular; surstylus developed, much diversified in shape; male cercus absent, reduced or present as a narrow projection; hypandrium closed posteriorly (Andersson 1977; Kanmiya 1983; Ismay 1984; Barrie & Wheeler 2016).
