Griphomyia Grootaert & Meuffels, 1997: 108, figs 1–15. Type species: Griphomyia gravicaudata Grootaert & Meuffels, 1997 by monotypy. Preoccupied by Griphomyia Hardy, 1987 .

Diagnosis. Small, dark metallic species with body length 1.2–2.5 mm. Eyes converging below antennae, almost contiguous in males; fronto-clypeal suture not present; scape bare; first flagellomere triangular, with basodorsal arista; mesonotum with depression in front of scutellum; hind tibia with strong dorsoapical seta; hypopygium pedunculate and enlarged.
