Examined material. IRAN, East Azerbaijan province: 1 ♂, Kaleybar, Eshlagh, 38°51′N 47°02′E, 1280 m, 9.viii.2005, leg. E. Gilasian.
Remarks. Eristalis alpina is distinguished from other Eristalis species by the following combination of characters: bee-like overall appearance; eye uniformly pilose; face shiny black medially, facial black vitta less than 1/3 as wide as face; antenna brownish-black; arista pile more than 3 times as long as its basal diameter; thorax pilosity not conceals its ground colour; anterior half of scutum dull; katepimeron bare; pterostigma short; fore femur with yellowish pile postero-laterally; hind femur swollen and arched; almost apical half of tibiae black; fore and mid tarsomeres 2–3 black; male genitalia as in Hippa et al. (2001: figures 4 and 5). This species is distributed in central and southern Europe, Tanscaucasia, Central Asia eastwards to Mongolia (Peck 1988).
