Remarks. The males of M. serrulatus are distinguished from those of other Merodon species by the following combination of characters: antenna black; flagellum almost 1.9 times longer than wide; legs black; mid coxa bare posteriorly; abdomen black; abdominal tergite 2 with a pair of orange maculae laterally; tegites 2–4 with a pair of greyish pollinose fasciae. The characters of the male genitalia were illustrated in detail by Marcos-García et al. (2007). Merodon serrulatus was collected on the southern slopes of the central regions of Elburz Mountains. This species occurs in southern Europe, Romania, Ukraine eastwards to Mongolia and west Siberia, Algeria, Morocco, Syria, Israel, Jordan and Turkey (Speight 2016).
