Andrena (Euandrena) rufula Schmiedeknecht, 1884

Andrena rufula Schmiedeknecht, 1882 –1884: 592, ♀ ♂ [France, NMW, lectotype by present designation] (Figures 26A–D)

Remarks. Schmiedeknecht (1882 –1884) described several Andrena species that he received from Jean Pérez, and type material for many of them has been considered lost (Gusenleitner & Schwarz 2002). Wood (2023b; e) located some of these specimens in the RMNH collection, and designated lectotypes. A further species, A. rufula, was located in the NMW collection, with a male and female that are clearly marked as coming from Pérez from Bordeaux, the stated type locality. The female specimen is designated as the lectotype in order to confirm its true location. In the NMW archive, there are around 50 letters of correspondence between Schmiedeknecht and Franz Kohl (1851–†1924), the Hymenoptera curator at the NMW in the late 19 th and early 20 th centuries. No specific reference to this specimen could be found, but a statement by Kohl from 10 th November 1916 (item 14/6/15) was found indicating that Schmiedeknecht sold hundreds of bee specimens to the museum, and it may therefore have been transferred to the NMW at this time.
