Geranium foetidum Linnaeus, Amoenitates Academicae 4: 487. 1759.
Lectotype (Guittonneau in Boissiera 20: 97. 1972): Herb. Magnol (MPU) .
Current name: Erodium foetidum (L.) L’Hér . ( Geraniaceae).
Note: Stearn (in Geck & Pressler, Festschr. Claus Nissen: 639. 1974) discussed this name, which was published in the 1759 reprint of the dissertation Flora Monspeliensis. Linnaeus’ name is validated solely by a reference to Magnol’s Botanicum Monspeliense: 109. 1676, the text of which Stearn reproduces, along with a plate ( Magnol’s t. 8; Stearn’s f. 3). Under Art. 7.7, Linnaeus’ binomial must be typified "by an element selected from the context of the validating description or diagnosis", and the type choice made by Guittonneau of Magnol material in MPU is therefore accepted here.
