Geranium carnosum Linnaeus, Centuria I Plantarum: 20. 1755.

"Habitat in Aethiopia." RCN: 4942.

Type not designated.

Original material: [icon] in Dillenius, Hort. Eltham. 1: 153, t. 127, f. 154. 1732.

Current name: Pelargonium carnosum (L.) Aiton ( Geraniaceae).

Note: Dyer (in Fl. Pl. Africa 29: pl. 1145. 1953) assumed the typical form of the species to be indicated by the cited Dillenian plate but he did not appear to be typifying the name. Albers (in Eggli, Ill. Handb. Succ. Pl., Dicots: 251. 2002) indicated the same plate as type but this choice was published after 1 Jan 2001 and so the omission of the phrase "designated here" or an equivalent (Art. 7.11) means that this choice is not effective. Edmondson & Rowley (in Bradleya 16: 15, f. 3. 1998) reproduce the plate in colour.
