Diagnosis. Ethmia vietmiella is similar to E. apispinata S. Wang, 2012 in both forewing pattern and genitalia. It can be distinguished by the presence of two black dots in the distal 1/3 of the forewing discal cell (Fig. 8); in the male genitalia by the uncus bilobed in the distal 1/3 (Fig. 18); and in the female genitalia by the apophyses posteriores as long as the papillae anales (Fig. 25). In E. apispinata, the forewing discal cell has a black dot in the distal 1/3, the uncus is bilobed in the distal 2/5, and the apophyses posteriores are shorter than the papillae anales (Wang & Wang 2012a: 47, figs 1, 4, 7).
Wingspan 30.0‒32.0 mm. Forewing pattern similar to that of male. Female genitalia (Fig. 25) with papillae anales densely covered with long setae. Apophyses posteriores as long as papillae anales; apophyses anteriores extremely short, wider basally, with a dilated rounded apex. Antrum heavily sclerotized anterodorsally. Ductus bursae long and coiled. Corpus bursae elongate ovate.
Distribution. China (Hainan), Vietnam.
Notes. The species is newly recorded from China, and the female is described for the first time.
