Euphranta klugii (Wiedemann)

(Fig. 56)

Material examined: Holotype Ƥ, INDIA: labelled ‘ Dacus klugii Indian / Type’ (UZMC); 1 Ƥ, INDONESIA: Java, Batavia, 9.iii.1934, Rev L.B. Cross, at light on boat (OUMNH).

Comments: This species was transferred from Callistomyia Bezzi to Euphranta by Hancock (2007) but its identity has remained uncertain. Examination of the holotype (Fig. 54) has shown it to be a senior synonym of the mangrove-breeding Euphranta signatifacies Hardy (syn. nov.), known previously from southern Thailand and West Malaysia and newly recorded from Java. The type was presumably collected in a mangrove habitat in the Kolkata district of West Bengal; its recorded host plants are Avicennia officinalis L. ( Verbenaceae) and Rhizophora mucronata L. ( Rhizophoraceae) (Hancock and Drew, 1994).
