Biology. The species has been reported as a pest in rubber plantations ( Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg.) (Lekutai 1981; Ho & Hashim 1997; Sittichaya & Beaver 2009). Numerous host trees are listed by Beeson & Bhatia (1937), and the species is clearly polyphagous. It is likely that the size and physiological condition of the host tree is more important than its taxonomic placement. Beeson & Bhatia (1937) described the gallery system o f H. aequalis .
