Prostephanus truncatus (Horn) (Fig. 8J)

Dinoderus truncatus Horn, 1878: 549 .

Distribution in mainland China: AH, GX (Chu & Zhang 1997), JX (Hua 2002 as Dinoderus truncates Horn). This species is presumably an introduction to China, which lies outsides its native distribution of USA and Central America.

Other distribution. North and Central America.Introduced into Africa and Europe. (Borowski & Węgrzynowicz 2012)

Biology. This species has become a major pest of stored products, especially cassava, maize ( Zea mays L. ( Poaceae)) and sweet potato ( Ipomaea batatas (L.) Lam. ( Convolvulaceae)) in tropical Africa (Holst et al. 2000). There is an extensive literature dealing with the biology and control of the species (e.g. Hodges 1986; Delobel & Tran, 1993; Nansen & Meikle 2002; Hill et al. 2003; Nansen et al. 2004).
