Taxonomy. First record from Lebanon as Dentex maroccanus Valenciennes by Mouneimné (1977: 63); subsequently recorded as Dentex maroccanus Valenciennes 1830 by Mouneimné (2002: 168–169). Material in collection: AUBM.

Distribution. Mediterranean Sea, eastern Atlantic: Bay of Biscay (strays to North Sea) to Gulf of Guinea.
