Taxonomy. First record from Lebanon as Lophius budegassa by Aguillar et al. (2018: 81). Recent unpublished records from Tyre (2016–2018) and Tripoli (26 June 2008). Material in collection: AUBM (OS3650) .

Distribution. Mediterranean Sea, Sea of Marmara, Black Sea, eastern Atlantic: western Baltic Sea, North Sea and British Isles south to Senegal.

Conservation. IUCN: Global (DD: 11 July 2014); Med. (LC: 16 November 2007). Capture and threats: FIT, FIB, unknown. Occurrence: Rare. Medium priority for conservation action .
