Taxonomy. First record from Lebanon as Panturichthys fowleri (Ben-Tuvia 1953) by George et al. (1964: 13); subsequently recorded as Panturichthys fowleri (Ben-Tuvia) by Mouneimné (1977: 61); as Panturichthys fowleri (Ben-Tuvia 1953) by Mouneimné (2002: 81). Recent unpublished record from Batroun (6 May 2008). Material in collection: AUBM (OS3794), BMNH, MNHN and USNM.

Distribution. Eastern Mediterranean Sea endemic.

Conservation. IUCN: Global (DD: 9 May 2014); Med. (DD: 9 May 2014). Capture and threats: Unknown. Occurrence: Very rare. Low priority for conservation action.
