Distribution in China: Guangdong, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Taiwan, Yunnan, Zhejiang (Chu & Zhang 1997; Hua 2002).

Other distribution. Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, Thailand. Introduced to Africa, Australia, Europe, USA

Host plants. This species mostly attacks large bamboos, but also angiosperm trees. The life cycle can last for 1-3 years (Beeson & Bhatia 1937). Liu et al. (2008) described the gallery system in the wood of Lauraceae .
