Distribution in China. Most provinces including Anhui, Beijing, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Shaanxi, Shandong, Shanghai, Sichuan, Taiwan, Tianjin, Yunnan and Zhejiang. The species was recorded from Yunnan by Huang (1987) and Li (1992). We did not find the species in our collections.

Other distribution. Cosmopolitan. CABI (2021a) gives details of the worldwide distribution.

Host plants. Develops in various species of bamboos ( Bambusoideae) and rattans ( Arecaceae), rarely in woody parts of trees and shrubs. A major pest of bamboo and rattan products (CABI 2021a).
