Mr. T. C. Jerdon describes four species which appear to belong to this genus; that they do not belong to Eciton ^HNS is readily ascertained from the fact of their having very large eyes, which is the character of the present genus, the genus Eciton ^HNS being remarkable for possessing the smallest eyes in the whole family of the Formicidae .
