Diptilostatus nudipalpus Flechtmannn. sp. (Fig. 3)
FEMALE (n= 6) Body robust, spindle shaped, whitish when alive; 167 (165220), 84 (7094) wide. Gnathosoma: projecting down; basal seta 4 (45); antapical setae absent in 24 females examined; chelicerae 57 (5560). Prodorsal shield 34 (2937), 77 (6176) wide; shield tubercles present, 22 (2123) apart, scapular setae (sc) missing. Shield design with admedian, submedian and transverse lines as in Fig. 3 D. Legs with all usual segments present; tibia I, genu II and femora I and II setae missing. Leg I 35 (3536); femur 14 (1215), ventral proximal half granulated, femoral seta (bv) missing; genu 6 (46), genual seta (l") 46 (4446) on a large tubercle extending like a hood over dorsodistal half of femur; tibia 4 (4), tibial seta (l') missing; tarsus 12 (1012), solenidion 6 (68), strongly knobbed, straight to slightly curved, empodium divided, each branch 5rayed, dorsal seta (ft') 32 (3133), lateral seta (ft") 33 (3234), unguinal seta (u') 5 (57). Leg II 30 (2833); femur 11 (1112), bv missing; genu 2 (23), l" missing; tibia 3 (34), with a distal spine; tarsus 9 (810), solenidion knobbed, 7 (67), empodium 9 (89), divided, each branch 5 rayed; ft' 10 (810), ft" 26 (2630), u' 4 (46). Coxigenital area: coxae granulated, touching medially without indication of a sternal line. Coxa seta I (1b) 13 (1014), 12 (1114) apart; coxal seta II (1a) 20 (1522), 11 (1113) apart; coxal seta III (2a) 36 (3651), 31 (28 34) apart. Coxigenital area with 10 (1012) annuli, microtuberculate. Genitalia 40 (3840) wide, 21 (2118) long; genital seta (3a) 6 (59); epigynium with 14 (1216) irregular longitudinal/radial lines distally and with many short dashes basally. Opisthosoma with a faint mediodorsal furrow, with a short median ridge on its anterior end. Lateral seta (c2) 31 (3136), on annulus 1 (1) counting from genitalia rear margin; ventral seta I (d) 40 (broken) (6680), 46 (4451) apart, on annulus 15 (1116); ventral seta II (e) 48 (4860), 30 (2733) apart, on annulus 34 (2936); ventral seta III (f) 29 (2729), 30 (2630) apart, on annulus 54 (4655) or 10 (1011)th from rear. Total ventral annuli 63 (5565), microtuberculate; total dorsal annuli 72 (7278), with irregularly spaced minute pinlike structures (excretory ducts of glands? tiny microtubercles?). Caudal seta (h2) 61 (broken) (6975); accessory seta (h1) minute.
MALE (n = 4) Smaller than female, 135154, 7074 wide. Gnathosoma: basal seta 34; antapical seta missing in 6 specimens examined; chelicerae 4546. Prodorsal shield 2831, 5358 wide; tubercles 1820 apart. Legs: leg I 3032; femur 1113; genu 3; tibia 4; tarsus 910, solenidion 67, empodium divided, 78, 5rayed, ft' 2526, ft" 2628, u' 45. Leg II 2527; femur 1112; genu 23; tibia 34; tarsus 79, solenidion 57, empodium 68, 5rayed, ft' 68, ft" 2325, u' 45. Coxigenital area: 1b 9, 911 apart; 1a 1415, 910 apart; 2a 3337, 2226 apart. Coxigenital area with 911 annuli, microtuberculate. Genitalia granulate, 2325 wide, 1518 long, 3a 68. Opisthosoma: c 2 2428, on annulus 1; d 5065, 3338 apart, on annulus 1012; e 4548, 2326 apart, on annulus 2629; f 2526, 2225 apart, on annulus 4146 or 9th from rear. TYPE MATERIAL Female holotype, 23 female and 6 male paratypes, from Euge
nia uniflora L. ( Myrtaceae), "pitanga", Piracicaba, São Paulo, Brazil (22° 40' 32" S, 47° 38' 00" W), 08 July 2002, coll. C.H.W. Flechtmann, on 12 microscopic preparations.
RELATION TO HOST vagrant on the lower leaf surface; no visible damage.
ETYMOLOGY The specific designation, nudipalpus, from the Latin, nudus, bare, refers to the absence of the antapical seta on the palp.
