Genus Capitolichus Gaud & Atyeo, 1975
Type species: Capitolichus tetroplourus Gaud & Atyeo, 1975, by original designation.
The genus is currently composed of five species, including the new one described below, associated with New World barbets ( Piciformes: Capitonidae), and suboscine passerines ( Passeriformes: Cotingidae and Tyrannidae) (Gaud & Atyeo 1975, Alzuet et al. 1988): C. tetroplourus Gaud & Atyeo, 1975 from Eubucco bourcierii (Lafresnaye, 1845), C. biemarginatus (Mégnin & Trouessart, 1884) from Capito auratus (Dumont, 1805) (Capitonidae), C. pyroderi (Mégnin & Trouessart, 1884) from Pyroderus scutatus (Shaw, 1792) (Cotingidae), and C. pitangus Alzuet et al., 1988 from Pitangus sulphuratus bolivianus (Lafresnaye, 1852) ( Tyrannidae). The new species described herein is the first one of this genus from a host of the family Picidae (Piciformes) .
