Calvariopsis picta sp. nov.
(Figs 1H, 14)
Type material. Holotype, male (MNHN): “ Cochabamba \ (Bolivia) Germain.”; “MUSEUM PARIS \ Collection Léon Fairmaire \ 1906” . Paratype, male (MNHN): same data as holotype .
Diagnosis. Resembles some colour forms of C. peruviana sp. nov. It is separable from similar species on the basis of characters of male genitalia: penis parallel-sided, shorter than in C. peruviana sp. nov. tergite VIII lacks distinct emarginations.
Description. Holotype, male. Body oval, convex, covered with brownish, suberect setae. Head brown, pronotum orange, elytra orange with brown maculation, each elytron with brown stripe in anterior half, and with brown macula close to outer margin, posterior portion of each elytron with brown, oval macula, close to suture, outer margin of elytra brown, legs, antennae and mouthparts yellowish. Head very broad, 1.6× wider than width of interocular space, with distinct punctation, punctures small, granulate, separated by a 1.5–2.0× diameter of a puncture, eyes moderately large, not protuberant. Pronotum transverse, widest at its base. Disc of pronotum with fine, granulate punctation, punctures separated by ca. 1.0–2.0× diameter of a puncture. Posterior margin of pronotum subtly bisinuate. Anterior angles protruding anteriorly, subtriangular, posterior angles obtuse. Scutellar shield subtriangular, impunctate. Elytra oblong, without traces of longitudinal ridges, widest in the middle of their length, sides curved, regularly converging to apex in posterior 1/3. Humeri well marked. Punctation stronger than on pronotum, punctures elongate, distance between punctures ca. the diameter of a puncture.
Male genitalia (Fig. 14F). Penis (L 0.68 mm, W 0.09 mm, Fig. 14A) long, with subparallel sides, parameroids short, relatively wide, rounded at apices, trigonium subtriangular, narrow, pointed at apex. Tegmen (L 0.54 mm, W 0.16 mm, Fig. 14B) long, sides diverging, apex with short lateral lobes, covered with setae. Sternite VIII very small, U-shaped (Fig. 14D), sternite IX (L 0.30 mm, W 0.17 mm, Fig. 14C) subrectangular, with paired apodemes, apical margin rounded, apical portion covered with short, sparse setae. Tergite VIII (L 0.33 mm, W 0.35 mm, Fig. 14D) with short apical plate, central portion of apical margin with small indentation, apical margin subtly setose, apodemes distinctly longer than apical plate, diverging. Tergite IX (L 0.36 mm, W 0.27 mm, Fig. 14E) with mem- branous apical plate, apodemes as long as apical plate.
Variability. Dorsal pattern very variable. Paratype with brownish black dorsum, each elytron with oval adsutural portion in apical part, outer part of anterior half of elytron orange. Certain variation can be noticed in the sternite VII which can have more (Fig. 14F) or less (Fig. 14D) projecting median process.
Female. Unknown.
Measurements and ratios. Male (n = 1) TL 2.40 mm, PL 0.47 mm, PW 1.03 mm, EL 2.10 mm, EW 1.53 mm, TL/EW 1.57, PW/PL 2.21, EL/EW 1.37, EL/PL 4.50.
Distribution. Known only from the type locality in Bolivia.
Etymology. Lat. picta = painted, of various colours; a reference to colourful dorsal pattern.
