Pentacora sphacelata (Uhler, 1877)

Geographical distribution: United States in the Nearctic region to the Netherlands Antilles in the Neotropical region; also known from Spain.

Material from Cuba: Matanzas, Ciénaga de Zapata, La Playa, banco de arena, no date, Alayo leg., some specimens (ESI) (Alayo 1967, 1974).

Habitat: on sand near seawater; Alayo (1967, 1974) mentioned collecting specimens in a sand bank almost completely surrounded by the sea.
