Lectotype (Burtt in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 99. 1993): Herb. Clifford: 400, Xeranthemum 1, sheet 1 (BM-000646992) .

Generitype of Xeranthemum Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 181. 1929).

Current name: Xeranthemum annuum L. ( Asteraceae).

Note: Hilliard & Burtt (in Bot. J. Linn. Soc. 82: 249. 1981) indicated material in the Clifford herbarium (BM) as type but did not distinguish between the two relevant sheets that are there. They are evidently not part of a single gathering so Art. 9.15 does not apply. Burtt subsequently designated one of the sheets as lectotype.
