Neoptychodes cosmeticus Martins & Galileo, 1996
Neoptychodes cosmeticus Martins & Galileo, 1996: 293; Júlio et al. 2000: 43 (type); Monné & Hovore, 2006: 269 (checklist); Monné, 2016: 816 (cat.); Monné & Monné, 2016: 70 (type).
Neoptychodes cosmeticus was described based on a male and a female from Colombia and a female from Ecuador. After the original description, the species was mentioned only in catalogues and checklists. According to Martins & Galileo (1996) (translated): “ Neoptychodes cosmeticus more resembles N. cretatus (Bates, 1872) by absence of continuous white band close to elytral suture.” Although the statement is correct in relation to the sutural white band, N. cosmeticus more closely resembles N. candidus (Bates, 1885) and N. hondurae hondurae (White, 1858) .
The species is recorded from Panama (new country record). PANAMA, Coclé: El Valle (Cerro Gaital, 8.62595 / -80.13839), 14.V.2015, S. S. Anzaldo col. (FWSC) .
