Genus Songthela Ono, 2000

Type species. Heptathela hangzhouensis Chen, Zhang & Zhu, 1981 .

Diagnosis. Males of Songthela can be distinguished from all other Heptathelinae genera by contrategulum with dense dentations (Figs 3A, 3D, 4A, 4D, 5A, 5D, 6A, 6D); by conductor with one or two apical spines, middle portion smooth or covered with several teeth (Figs 3A–E, 4A–4E, 5A–5E, 6A–E); by embolus with a wide and flat opening (Figs 3A, 3D, 4A, 4D, 5A, 5D, 6A, 6D). Songthela females differ from all other Heptathelinae genera by two pairs of receptacular clusters, median ones with obvious tubular genital stalks located on anterior margin of bursa copulatrix or slightly situated dorsally, lateral ones located relatively dorsolaterally (Figs 3H–O, 4H–M, 5H–M, 6H–M).

Distribution. Southern China and northern Vietnam.
