Mycale (Carmia) macilenta (Bowerbank, 1866) (Figure 2)
Material examined. MMF 35068 / Location: Ponta da Cruz (PC), Madeira island / 5.5‒6 m depth / Date: 4 jul 2001 / Collector: Rosa Pestana.
Remarks. Although three types of anisochelae and two types of sigmas were described in the type specimen, only large anisochelae (31.6‒34‒39.5 x 2‒2 ‒2 µm) and large sigmas (81.5‒81.8‒81.8 x 3.4‒3.4‒3.4 µm) were found in our specimen. Tylostyles’ heads are slightly swollen. Despite the Mycalidae often includes several types of spicules, the extremely encrusting shape of the small specimen collected (1 mm thick) conditioned the procedure for OM slides. We also recognize that some spicules should be observed by SME, but that was not possible at the time of preparation and identification.
