Vertex with interocular space slightly less than or about the same as distance between antennal sockets. Pronotum subelliptical and flattened, concealing head and mesonotum, with anterior margin nearly truncate and middle of posterior margin slightly convex. Tegmina and hind wings usually fully developed and reaching well beyond end of abdomen, hind wings shorter than tegmina. Tegmen with longitudinal or sublongitudinal discoidal sectors. Hind wing with costal veins clubbed or thickened distally, or not; medial vein straight and usually simple, rarely with branches; cubital vein with complete branches, incomplete branches generally absent, apical triangle present but small. Front femur of Type C2 (anteroventral margin stout proximal spines absent, a row of piliform spinules present, terminating in 2 stout spines), rarely of Type B3 (anteroventral margin of front femur with 3 proximal spines followed by a row of piliform spinules, terminating in 3 large apical spines) or another type; pulvilli present on 4 proximal tarsomeres, tarsal claws strongly asymmetrical and unspecialized, arolia present. Male: abdominal terga unspecialized. Supraanal plate transverse, middle of apical margin slightly concave or convex, symmetrical, right and left paraprocts similar or asymmetrical, without spinelike processes. Subgenital plate symmetrical or slightly asymmetrical, apical margin with Vshaped incision in middle, styli widely separated, each in a posterolateral corner of plate. Genital hook on right side.
