Pleroma robustum (Cogniaux) Guimarães & Michelangeli (in Guimar ã es et al. 2019: 988)

≡ Tibouchina robusta Cogniaux (1885: 394) .

Lectotype (designated by Guimar ã es et al. 2019):—[BRAZIL]: Prov. Goyaz [Goiás]: in Brasilia, 1839, J. B.E. Pohl 1628 (M [online image!], isolectotypes BR!, F!, NY!, W [online image!]). (Fig. 6.)

= Pleroma nodosum (Wurdack) Guimar ã es & Michelangeli (in Guimar ã es et al. 2019: 986) ≡ Tibouchina nodosa Wurdack (1959: 9) . Type:— BRAZIL: Goiás: Chapada dos Veadeiros, sandstone outcrop 7 km south of Veadeiros, 24 April 1956, E.Y. Dawson 14596 (holotype R!, RSA [online image!], isotypes LAM [online image!], NY!), syn. nov. (Fig. 7.)

The leaf blades of P. nodosum and P. robustum are bullate on the adaxial surface and foveolate and reticulate on the abaxial surface. In addition, both species have similar inflorescences, bracteoles, and sepals. We also note that the exceptional values in the inflorescence size are not related to leaf variation. Some examined specimens of P. robustum collected in Cocalzinho de Goiás, Brazil [e.g., A.F.A. Versiane 157 (HUFU!, RB!), J.N. Nakajima 5059 (MBM!, RB!), R.A. Pacheco 1027 (HUFU!, RB!) and M.J.R. Rocha 925 (RB!)] differ from the type collections of P. nodosum and P. robustum in having smaller leaves. Like Wurdack (1959), we consider these measures intraspecific variations. No other morphological differences were observed between P. robustum and P. nodosum that allow the separation of both species. Therefore, we are considering P. nodosum a heterotypic synonym of P. robustum .
