Paratropis pasochoa new species

Type material. Female holotype from Pichincha Province, Pasochoa (00°25’ S78°27’W) [–00.415860° – 78.450000°] 3000 m, 29 Jan. 1989, P. Jiminez (QCAZ 262395) .
Etymology. The specific epithet is a noun in apposition taken from the type locality.
Diagnosis. Female are distinguished from all species their elongated and pointed maxillary cuspules (Fig. 18A), their short spermathecae stalks and round spermathecal heads (Fig. 19C).
Description. (Female holotype): Total length: 7.52; carapace length: 3.66 carapace width: 3.98; abdomen length: 3.86. Coloration in ethanol. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace reddish-brown, caput arched; fovea wide, slightly procurved (Fig. 19A). Chelicerae reddish-brown; promargin 10 teeth, retromargin 10 teeth. Labium sub-rectangular, 39 cuspules anteriorly (Fig. 19B). Maxillae longer than wide, anterior prolateral lobe elongated, conical; 33 elongated, pointed cuspules (Fig. 19B). Sternum heart-shaped; 1.94 length, 2.44 width, three pairs of oval sigilla (Fig. 19B). EYES: Eight eyes on tubercle, elevated, height 0.49; AME 0.14; ALE 0.21; PLE 0.19; PME 0.08; PME–PME 0.56. ABDOMEN: Dorsally dark gray, encrusted with soil, with some spatulate setae (Fig. 18A, B); N.B., the abdomen looks like it was dehydrated at one point. LEGS: Uniformly dark orange-brown, encrusted with soil particles. Macrosetae ventrally on metatarsi and tarsi II–IV. Spinules present on leg I ventrally, metatarsus 6, tarsus 16; tarsal scopula absent. Trichobothria: palpal tib: drl 5, dpl 5; tarsus I: 7/8, II: 5, III: 4, IV: 5; metatarsus I: 4, II: 3, III: 2, IV: 4. Legs measurements: I 9.95 (3.31/1.28/2.44/1.74/1.18); II 7.90 (2.46/1.26/1.55/1.48/1.15); III 6.94 (2.12/1.11/1.33/1.24/1.14); IV 10.21 (3.07/1.29/2.31/2.04/1.50); leg formula 4123. GENITALIA: Two short spermathecae (1.8x as long as wide); spermathecal heads rounded; stalk straight (Fig. 19C).
Distribution. Only know from the type locality (Map 1).
Natural history. The female specimen was found at 3000 m in an inter-Andean humid montane forest (Valencia & Jørgensen 2008).
